Posten Norge is a part of society’s infrastructure and the company is the largest workplace in Norway according to the number of employees. Posten’s task is to both provide good, uniform postal services throughout Norway in line with the licence requirements, while simultaneously running on business terms and being competitive in a market that is characterised by continuously increasing competition.
Expansion within new product and market areas means that Posten is helping to strengthen the traditional postal service and ensure that Posten in Norway can maintain a good, countrywide range of high quality postal services.
Society’s requirements and expectations of Posten’s operations are regulated by a licence. Postal services with an obligation to deliver and fundamental bank services will be available in a countrywide sales network with at least one postal point (post office or Post i Butikk) in each municipality. More than 10 000 post deliverers and drivers on 4 750 routes serve Norway’s 2.7 million households and companies, distributing letters, packages and unaddressed mail six days a week. Of these, around 2000 are rural post delivers who also provide those who receive post with financial services.
The development over the past few years shows that the range of services has broadened and the service has improved. The availability of Posten’s services has increased, in particular through the establishment of Post i Butikk [In-Store Post Offices] and longer post office opening hours. Posten’s sales and service network consists of a good 1 500 post offices and Post i Butikk branches, plus in the region of 30 000 postboxes.
Posten’s Group structure consists of four divisions and three staff teams. The divisions have a general business responsibility, and must develop and supply competitive solutions to meet the needs of existing and new customers individually and as a whole.
The Post, Logistikk [Logistics] and ErgoGroup divisions are market-orientated divisions, while the Distribusjonsnett [Distribution Network] is an operating unit. The Group staff teams are development-orientated competence units that assist the Group Manager, the board and the company’s divisions.
Posten Norge AS is a limited liability company that is 100 per cent owned by the State through the Norwegian Ministry of Transport.
