With the growth in e-commerce, a growing number of people want more of their post and goods to be delivered directly to their door in their mailbox.

Positioning

Guidelines for positioning mailboxes:
Posten does its utmost to meet your needs as a customer. You will find our guidelines for the positioning of your mailbox below.

Single family homes in urban and suburban areas

• Mailboxes should be placed at the entrance of the customer's property
• Possible exceptions: Side roads

Single family homes in sparsely populated areas:

• On ordinary post routes, mailboxes should be placed at the entrance of the customer’s property
• Detours from the main route receive deliveries where there are three or four households per kilometre of road

Apartment blocks

• In the main entrance on the ground floor

Terrace houses:

• Mailboxes should be positioned in natural groups that are passed daily by customers, for example, near garages, refuse collection areas or where a footpath and road for vehicles intersect.

Summer cabin areas:

• Mailboxes should be mounted on frames in a location specified by Posten. The usual location would be at the entrance to the area where the ordinary post route passes. Alternative locations can be specified with the agreement of the local summer cabin association or similar

Cabins/holiday properties close to an ordinary post route:

• Mailboxes must be positioned at the nearest ordinary stop in the post route. The same guidelines as for single family homes apply to cabins under year-round occupancy.
• Elderly people with special needs, the disabled and infirm will be assessed for the possibility of suitably adapted arrangements.

Whatever the circumstances, the location of your mailbox must not result in a situation that could be a hazard to passing traffic.
