When he was 15 years old, Håkon Stenstadvold (1912–1977) did book illustrations for the history of Norway. Later he painted imaginative water colours and embarked on his successful career as a book illustrator.

21 February 2012 - King Harald V and Queen Sonja 75 years
They were both born on a Sunday in 1937, he as a prince and she as a commoner from the west of Oslo. Today they are the focal point of a large royal family. They were Crown Prince and Princess for 23 years and have been King and Queen of Norway for 21 years. King Harald and Queen Sonja celebrate their 75th birthdays this year.

Sea rescue The theme for this year’s Nordic joint issue is life at sea and Norway has chosen sea rescue as the subject for its stamp.

May 18th 2012 - Norwegian Aviation Centenary
It was actually a Swede, Baron Carl Cederström, who was the first to fly in Norway. After several unsuccessful Norwegian attempts, he made the first exhibition flight in 1910, over Etterstadsletta in Kristiania. However, it was another Swede, naval lieutenant Olle Dahlbeck who gave a kick start to Norwegian aviation history.

June 15th 2012 - Norwegian Lighthouses III
This year’s stamps in Norway Post’s lighthouse series are devoted to Kavringen and Medfjordbåen in the Oslo Fjord. Both are unmanned lighthouses.

June 15th 2012 - Hadeland Glassverk 250 years
The craft of glass-making is based on age-old traditions. Glass as a material was known in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Persia as far back as 3 – 4,000 years ago. Then about 2,000 years ago the glassblowing pipe was invented. This blowpipe is still one of the most important tools in every glassworks.

September 14th 2012 - Norwegian Nurses Organisation 100 years
On 24 September 1912 a group of nurses met in a flat in Stensberggaten in Kristiania. Their intention was to found Norsk Sykepleierskeforbund, the Norwegian Nurses Organisation.
