E-commerce is still staying at a very high level and as a result there are unusually large packages delivered throughout the country. Some delays may occur.
– This week there is a 25 per cent increase in deliveries of large parcels, compared with the same week last year. Extra trips are run to be up to date.
– Across the country, there is a sharp increase in home delivery of packages on the door. We do our utmost to be up to date, but some may unfortunately experience delays on the selected delivery day.
– Work on the railway in Sweden delays deliveries to Finnmark.
– The international volume of packages in and out of Gardermoen is about to normalize. Delays in letters to and from abroad must still be taken into account.
Update 15th April 2020
This Easter, there has been an unusual amount of shopping online. In many places in the country, Posten and Bring therefore deliver a record number of packages to mailboxes and at the door to the customers. Large quantities of packages combined with bad weather in several parts of the country can cause delays in deliveries until the coming weekend.
In Oslo, Akershus and Østfold, there may be delays in returning home parcels to private individuals, which has seen a large increase recently. Norway Post does its utmost to ensure that as many deliveries as possible go as normal and redeploy manpower where the need is greatest.
The postal route between Western Norway and Eastern Norway will be delayed in several places due to bad weather at the mountain crossing, which creates problems for the Bergen railway. The weather in Northern Norway also means that mail can be delayed. Posten is working to ensure that mail and parcel distribution is up to date before the weekend.
Customers who are waiting for packages that can be tracked are encouraged to check the status of the package at posten.no, or by using Posten tracking app. It can be downloaded to all smartphones.
The corona situation also causes less regular mail from abroad and into Norway.

Deliveries of letters, parcels and goods is mostly normal throughout the country. The following factors are worth noting:
- Large package volumes are on their way out to the Norwegian people. Some delays and discrepancies will occur due to high volumes and local weather conditions, especially in Northern Norway.
- Package tracking can be done in the Posten app and on www.posten.no
- Posten is monitoring the situation in the relation to gradual opening of society in Norway – and similarly, we follow developments in Europe that greatly affect international transport and the parcel and freight volumes into Norway.
In the future, the operating report will only be updated if there are major operating deviations.

– These are difficult times, but we are also seeing a national mobilisation resulting in deliveries to Norwegian households and customers proceeding more or less as normal. We are doing everything we can to maintain a high quality in mail, parcel and goods services that represent an important part of our critical infrastructure, says Tone Wille, CEO at Posten Norge and Bring.
International conditions
The international exchange of mail, parcel and goods shipments is to a greater extent impacted by restrictions in air traffic, which causes cancellations of passenger flights and reduced capacity. Freight transport is considered to play a role critical to society and within the EU the borders are open and the transport of goods by road has a high priority.
– The serious situation which is affecting all of society may entail that we will be unable to meet all contractual and customer obligations in the time ahead. We have therefore announced that this is a force majeure situation, so customers are prepared that the situation may quickly change, Wille says.
Bring and Posten Norge are focusing on operations and are continuously working to find good solutions. For this process we have close contact with our international partners, including the other postal organisations in the Universal Postal Union.
More people want home delivery of goods
Increased e-commerce recently has also led to more customers wanting home deliveries.
– In order to reduce the risk of infection when delivering packages and goods, we are implementing new digital signing solutions or allowing the drivers to sign themselves, Wille says.
We are following the national health authorities’ recommendations and have also implemented our own group-specific cleaning and hygiene measures for e.g. terminals, post reception centres, drivers and delivery.
As a rule, employees in administrative functions are working from home. So far, the group has not issued any lay-off notices.
The coronavirus situation is being closely monitored. Emergency preparedness is high and a crisis response team has been established in the group.

The current very serious situation that affects all of society means that the Posten Norge AS and Bring group must notify all parties that this is now a force majeure situation. As long as this results in obstacles to our deliveries, any deviations from agreements will not constitute non-fulfilment of the agreement. We therefore want to notify you that it is unlikely that we will be able to fulfil all our obligations as intended, and that deviations may occur. For example when it comes to pick-up times, shipping times, delivery times and our time guarantees.
We must continuously prioritise which services and customer volumes can be produced. Access to personnel and vehicles and other limitations are key factors. Our prioritisations are based on life, health and the key interests of society. At the same time, we would like to emphasise that the group is doing all we can to ensure that agreed deliveries and services are carried out in accordance with the agreements in place.
When delivering goods, we will no longer allow recipients to sign our PDAs due to the risk of infection. This will apply until further notice. Drivers will record deliveries and the GPS coordinates will be recorded automatically upon delivery.

We are closely monitoring the coronavirus situation and follow the official health advice. The Posten Norge Group consists of a big workplace with an important business in the Nordics and in some countries outside of the Nordics. Several cases of the coronavirus have now been detected in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

We have informed our employees and encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with and follow the official health advice provided by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. The same goes for our employees in other countries, who must follow the advice provided in the country where they reside, says CEO Tone Wille, Posten Norge.
Affects international trade and transport
The corona situation has so far had relatively little impact on international trade and transport. As of today, there is no indication that there are any risks associated with the purchase of goods and the reception of parcels from China. The infection spreads between people.
The exchange of post and goods between countries is proceeding mainly as usual. In China, there has been a partial stop in production of goods and consequently reduced volumes of post and goods for transportation. This is recovering. In Italy, restrictions have been introduced nationwide, not just in northern Italy. Right now, the flow of goods is normal, but we must take into account that there may be delays in the shipping of post and goods. The same will apply to other countries where the coronavirus is widespread. We are in close contact with our international partners, especially with the other postal companies in the Universal Postal Union.

If the situation deteriorates and leads to irregularities in our supply chain, we have initiated a dialogue with some major customers about the prioritisation of their shipments, says Wille.
A number of measures have been implemented
Major events have been cancelled and all non-essential air travel, both domestic and international, have been stopped in all countries where we have employees. This restriction applies until further notice.
External meetings must generally be carried out via Skype/Teams or by phone until further notice. External participants who attend meetings at Bring’s and Posten Norge’s premises will be asked if they have been in areas of ongoing infection or if they show symptoms of infection.
Increased use of home offices has been introduced within the Posten Norge Group, in addition to a number of extraordinary hygiene and cleaning measures at terminals, post reception points and the head office. This to strengthen the daily work with cleaning and hygiene already in place and to prevent infection.

Facts about the Corona situation, dated March, 2020
- Posten Norge and Bring have established guidelines that follow the official health advice, guidelines and recommendations provided by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health as well as the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the Danish Health Authority.
- The Posten Norge Group has established an emergency response organization that is prepared for changes and that can take action quickly.
For international trade and transport of goods, the status is as follows
- China: Mail and goods shipments to and from China are beginning to go back to normal. Volumes have increased during the last few weeks and will continue to increase as the production in China gets going.
- Italy: In Northern Italy, areas with the postal codes IT-26 and IT-35 are affected and there are restrictions on the collection and delivery of goods. Due to the extraordinary measures, delays are to be expected. This can also affect other areas in Italy. We are monitoring the development and will provide more updates when we have further information.
