12 June 2020 Munch Museum

The new Munch Museum makes it possible to truly demonstrate Edvard Munch's influence on his own time as well as today's generation of artists.

Munch left everything he owned in terms of paintings, sketches, photographs and sculptures to Oslo Municipality. In 2008, a decision was reached to build a new museum for the collection, which consists of roughly 28,000 works, and Juan Herreros's bid Lambda won the architecture competition.

The museum will consist of a thirteen-story tower encircled by a three-story platform. The new museum will allow Munch's art to reach a broader audience. The museum will have permanent exhibitions featuring the best of Munch's art alongside temporary exhibitions by other artists. Visitors are invited to experience Edvard Munch's life and art in a completely new way.
