Dangerous and forbidden content

You are responsible for ensuring that the contents of your letter or parcel are legal to send within Norway and abroad.

Different countries have different regulations on what can be sent. Please refer to our country overview for details.

There are differences between what individuals can send and what businesses can send. If you represent a business, please visit bring.no.

The following items cannot be sent by post in Norway:

  • Dangerous goods
    • This includes explosives such as ammunition and fireworks, flammable substances like paint, aerosols, and batteries. Ammunition - Empty shells cannot be sent either. 
  • Narcotics
  • All living and dead animals/insects, including remains of dead animals. 
  • Money or securities can only be sent in registered mail. 
  • Valuables such as gemstones and precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum cannot be sent in parcels abroad. 

Exception list for special shipments

Weapons

If you are sending weapons domestically, they must be secured in such a way that they cannot be used, as per the weapons regulations. This means a vital part must be removed from the weapon and sent separately. As the sender of a weapon, you must be familiar with the weapons law and how a weapon should be secured during transport. Weapons include all types of weapons, e.g., air guns, airsoft guns, etc. Note that weapons can only be sent in a Norgespakke Stor.

Lithium batteries

Lithium batteries are used in many electronic devices such as PCs, mobile phones, cameras, laser meters, shavers, etc. Loose batteries cannot be sent. Lithium batteries/cells are accepted in Norway under the following conditions:

  • The batteries must be installed in the equipment they are intended to be used in.
  • The batteries must be well protected against damage and short-circuiting.
  • The allowed content in a shipment is limited to two lithium batteries/four lithium cells (a battery can consist of several cells).
  • Damaged or defective batteries must not be sent under any circumstances.

Liquid/moist material

Paint – including water-based paint can be sent if the packaging contains absorbent materials and is well protected against damage. Note that this content can only be sent in a Norgespakke large.

Fire extinguishers – UN1044 / airbags, etc.

Fire extinguishers UN1044 with compressed or liquefied gas are accepted as parcels for road/rail transport if they are manufactured and filled in accordance with the applicable regulations in the country of manufacture. It is important that the extinguisher is secured and has solid inner and outer packaging.
